Having exited the hallowed halls of all universities with a paltry (or is that poultry?) M.F.A., I'm unaware of this ABD: All But Dissertation? Dissertated? (That sounds like it involves pus, phlegm or pools of bubbling organic mass.) Or maybe All But Dead?
I'm sure academics, ever prone to prostrated confidence (What does that mean?), would say the all-but-dead reading is apt as well.
